Ilana Dew (ilana.dew@duke.edu)
My research takes behavioral, functional neuroimaging, and lifespan approaches to the study of human memory. The focus of my doctoral and post-doctoral work has been on the relationship between explicit memory, the conscious retrieval of past information or experiences, and implicit memory, an unintentional or non-conscious form of retrieval. My research has focused on two overarching themes: 1) circumstances under which explicit and implicit memory interact, influence each other, or rely on common mechanisms; 2) why – and to what limits – explicit and implicit memory are differentially affected by aging, at both behavioral and neural levels. Prior to joining the Cabeza Lab, I completed my masters with Neil Mulligan and my Ph.D. with Kelly Giovanello at the University of North Carolina at Chapel hill. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Barnard College of Columbia University.
